Mazdutide, explained

A drug studied for appetite, body weight and blood sugar.

Late-stage human trialsRead the sources

What it’s used for

Reported topic

Human trial context

Human trials examine weight and blood sugar.

Reported topic

Unresolved outcomes

Changes in risk markers do not establish fewer heart attacks, strokes or related events.

Research interests
Weight loss · Blood sugar · Body composition

Late-stage human trials support defined metabolic outcomes.

What to expect

  1. Weeks 1–8

Appetite and digestive changes come first

  2. Weeks 8–60

Weight loss follows; the pace varies from person to person

Side effects & safety

Side effects

  • Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea are the most common, mostly mild to moderate
  • At 9 mg in a trial, vomiting affected 53.1%, nausea 46.9% and diarrhea 39.4% of people
  • Dehydration and a faster heart rate

Stop and get help if

  • Severe stomach or back pain
  • New neck symptoms
  • Signs of low blood sugar
  • An allergic reaction
  • Passing much less urine than usual, or signs of dehydration
  • Marked mood changes

What regs say

  • Not FDA-approved; regulatory status varies by country.

Avoid or check first

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • History of pancreatitis or gallbladder disease
  • Thyroid cancer or MEN2
  • Using insulin or sulfonylureas — higher risk of low blood sugar
  • Already on semaglutide, tirzepatide or liraglutide — overlapping GLP-1 action

In sport

  • The reference describes mazdutide as not prohibited, citing approval in China.

How to mix5 steps
  1. Wipe both tops

Wash your hands, then swab both rubber vial tops with alcohol. Let them dry.

  2. Draw the water

Use a new sterile syringe to draw the water volume selected in the calculator.

  3. Run it down the wall

Introduce the water slowly down the inside glass wall, rather than directly onto the powder.

  4. Swirl, don’t shake

Gently swirl or roll the vial. Allow time for the powder to dissolve.

  5. Label the vial

Write the preparation date and the amount and final volume on the vial label.

Injecting under the skinWhere, rotating sites, which syringe

Where

Subcutaneous injections go into the fatty layer beneath the skin. Common sites include the abdomen, outer thigh and upper arm. Keep at least 5 cm from the navel and avoid bruised, irritated or damaged skin.

Rotate sites

Change the spot each time. Clean the skin and let it dry.

Single-use equipment

Use a new sterile needle and syringe each time. Place used needles in a sharps container.

Storage

Storage

Refrigerated. Reported period: 30 days.

Combining it with others

Don’t combine

  • Retatrutide

Similar appetite-hormone effects may add to stomach problems and dehydration.

  • Survodutide

Similar appetite-hormone effects may add to stomach problems and dehydration.

  • Orforglipron

Similar appetite-hormone effects may add to stomach problems and dehydration.

Use caution

  • Oral medicines

Slower stomach emptying may change how pills are absorbed.

  • IGF-1 LR3

Both lower blood sugar, which may increase the risk of it falling too low.

  • MK-677

Increased hunger and blood sugar can work against the appetite-hormone effects.

  • GHRP-6

One increases hunger while the other reduces it.

  • Tesofensine

    Heart and blood-pressure effects.

  • Adipotide

    Strain on the kidneys.

  • Melanotan I

    Nausea may get worse.

  • Melanotan II

    Nausea may get worse.

  • PT-141

    Nausea can add up.

  • Cagrilintide

    Slower stomach emptying.

  • Eloralintide

    Slower stomach emptying.

What the research says

Early clinical research

An early human trial studied IBI362, now called mazdutide, and measured changes in how the body uses energy. It acts on the hormones GLP-1 and glucagon.

Two receptor pathways

Drug research examines the different roles of the hormone signals GLP-1 and glucagon.

How long it stays in your body

Half-life is the time it takes for the amount in the body to fall by half. It does not tell you how long effects last.

Questions

What does 10mg mean?

It describes an amount of material in the unit stated on the label. It does not describe liquid volume, a dose, or how to prepare the product.

Read more about amounts
Does purity mean it is sterile?

No. Purity and sterility require different tests. An endotoxin result also does not establish sterility.

About testing
Can I calculate concentration?

You need a mass in mg and either a final volume or a target concentration. IU and blends require separate, verified information.
