Adipotide

What it’s used for

Lab & animal research

Adipotide (prohibitin-TP01) is an experimental peptide designed to damage the blood vessels that feed white fat. People are interested in it for fat and weight loss. Obese monkeys lost weight and fat on it but showed kidney injury signals, and there's no human evidence that it works or is safe.

  • Fat & weight loss Obese monkeys lost weight and white fat with daily injections over 28 days.
  • Insulin response Insulin responses improved in the same monkey research.

What to expect

  1. Weeks 1–2

Changes in waist size (abdominal circumference)

  2. Weeks 2–4

    Fat and weight changes

  3. After stopping

    Possible rebound

Side effects & safety

Side effects

  • Kidney injury in monkeys: reversible proximal-tubule damage, with creatinine and electrolyte changes

Stop and get help if

  • Passing less urine, or kidney or electrolyte blood tests that stay abnormal
  • Severe injection-site or whole-body reactions, or any unexpected toxicity

Which symptoms mean call 911 or see a doctor

Avoid or check first if

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding — safety hasn't been studied
  • Taking kidney-straining drugs such as NSAIDs or aminoglycoside antibiotics — risk of added kidney injury

In sport

Likely banned at all times. An experimental fat-targeting peptide whose only trial was stopped at phase 1, so it’s an unapproved S0 substance.

How to mix 5 steps with bacteriostatic water · vial check

How to mix

  1. 1 Wipe both tops Wash your hands, then swab the rubber tops of the peptide vial and the water vial with alcohol. Let them dry.
  2. 2 Draw the water Use bacteriostatic (BAC) water — sterile water with a preservative, sold for mixing peptides . With a new sterile syringe, draw the amount you entered in the calculator. A 1 mL syringe filled twice is 2 mL.
  3. 3 Run it down the wall Push the needle into the peptide vial at an angle and let the liquid trickle down the glass, not onto the powder.
  4. 4 Swirl, don’t shake Gently swirl or roll the vial until the liquid is completely clear. Give it a few minutes if needed.
  5. 5 Label the vial Write the date and what you mixed (for example 5 mg + 2 mL) on the vial.

This is general practice. If your product came with its own diluent or instructions, follow those. Not sure what to buy? See the supplies checklist .

Is my vial OK?

Good signs

  • Intact freeze-dried powder
  • Clear solution

Can be normal

  • Minor clumping

Don’t use if

  • Collapsed/moist powder
  • Cloudiness/precipitate

Injecting under the skin Where, rotating sites, which syringe

  • Where: belly (at least 2 in / 5 cm from the navel), front of the thigh, or back of the upper arm.
  • Rotate sites each time and skip bruised, scarred or sore skin.
  • Syringe: most people use a U-100 insulin syringe with a short, thin needle (29–31 gauge, 8 mm or shorter).
  • How: wipe with alcohol and let it dry, pinch the skin, go in at 45–90°, push slowly. Use each syringe once.

General practice for under-the-skin injections, not specific to Adipotide.

What the research says

Mostly animal studies

  • Human benefit and a safe dose are unknown; results come from monkeys and mice.
  • A first-in-human phase 1 trial was registered (NCT01262664), but human efficacy remains unconfirmed.
  • Product identity, purity and formulation can't be confirmed from published research.

What studies found

  • Newer research uses a different analogue The 2025 mixed-chirality study evaluated a modified prohibitin-targeting compound in obese mice. It does not verify adipotide efficacy, preparation or dosing in people.
  • Primate weight loss with renal effects Obese monkeys lost weight and white adipose tissue; renal proximal-tubule function changed. The study does not establish human safety.

Half-life and molecule details haven’t been verified for this compound.
