Cagrilintide, explained

An experimental long-acting drug being studied for appetite and body weight.

What it’s used for

Reported topic

Trial formulations

Research distinguishes cagrilintide alone from the CagriSema combination.

Reported topic

Metabolic research

Appetite and blood-sugar outcomes are also studied.

Research interests
Weight loss · Appetite · Fullness

Human weight-management trials show promise; exact treatment context matters.

What to expect

  1. Weeks 1–2

Body adjusts; stomach side effects are common

  2. Weeks 4–8

    2–5% weight loss

  3. Weeks 12–26

    10–15% weight loss

  4. Week 26+

    15–23% weight loss

Side effects & safety

Side effects

  • Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea
  • Stomach and gut side effects hit 41–63% of people on cagrilintide alone, versus 32% on placebo
  • Injection-site reactions
  • With semaglutide in type 2 diabetes, gut side effects affected 72.5% versus 34.4% on placebo

Stop and get help if

  • Unable to stay hydrated
  • Severe stomach pain that spreads to the back
  • Signs of an allergic reaction
  • An abscess at the injection site
  • The solution looks cloudy, has particles or turns gel-like — discard it

Avoid or check first

  • Taking pramlintide — it doubles up on the same amylin activity
  • Taking insulin — blood sugar and meal-timing effects need close monitoring

In sport

  • The reference reports: likely banned at all times.

How to mix5 steps
  1. Wipe both tops

Wash your hands, then swab both rubber vial tops with alcohol. Let them dry.

  2. Draw the water

Use a new sterile syringe to draw the water volume selected in the calculator.

  3. Run it down the wall

Introduce the water slowly down the inside glass wall, rather than directly onto the powder.

  4. Swirl, don’t shake

Gently swirl or roll the vial. Allow time for the powder to dissolve.

  5. Label the vial

Write the preparation date and the amount and final volume on the vial label.

Injecting under the skinWhere, rotating sites, which syringe

Where

Subcutaneous injections go into the fatty layer beneath the skin. Common sites include the abdomen, outer thigh and upper arm. Keep at least 5 cm from the navel and avoid bruised, irritated or damaged skin.

Rotate sites

Change the spot each time. Clean the skin and let it dry.

Single-use equipment

Use a new sterile needle and syringe each time. Place used needles in a sharps container.

Storage

Storage

Refrigerated at 2–8°C.

Combining it with others

Don’t combine

  • Eloralintide

Both affect the amylin appetite hormone, which may add to nausea.

Use caution

  • Tirzepatide

Both slow stomach emptying and reduce appetite, which may add to nausea.

  • Retatrutide

Both slow stomach emptying and reduce appetite, which may add to nausea.

  • Survodutide

Both slow stomach emptying and reduce appetite, which may add to nausea.

  • Mazdutide

Both slow stomach emptying and reduce appetite, which may add to nausea.

  • Orforglipron

Both slow stomach emptying and reduce appetite, which may add to nausea.

  • Tesofensine

Concerns about heart rate, blood pressure and eating too little may add up.

Often taken together

  • Semaglutide

CagriSema studies do not show that separately mixed products are compatible.

What the research says

Amylin and calcitonin receptors

Lab research examined how long-acting cagrilintide binds to the hormone signals amylin and calcitonin.

Combination research

An early human trial studied cagrilintide with semaglutide, combining effects on the appetite hormones amylin and GLP-1.

Questions

What does 10mg mean?

It describes an amount of material in the unit stated on the label. It does not describe liquid volume, a dose, or how to prepare the product.

Read more about amounts
Does purity mean it is sterile?

No. Purity and sterility require different tests. An endotoxin result also does not establish sterility.

About testing
Can I calculate concentration?

You need a mass in mg and either a final volume or a target concentration. IU and blends require separate, verified information.
