SS-31, explained

A peptide studied for how cells produce energy.

Late-stage human trialsRead the sources

What it’s used for

Reported topic

Disease-specific context

The source discusses specific medicines for Barth syndrome and diseases of the cell's energy-producing parts.

Reported topic

Evidence distinction

Those specific disease uses do not establish broad energy or anti-aging benefits.

Research interests
Cellular energy · Muscle function · Fatigue

Clinical results differ by disease; general energy benefits are not established.

What to expect

  1. Days 1–3

    Energy changes reported

  2. Weeks 1–2

    Endurance changes reported

  3. Weeks 2–4

    Stamina and sleep changes reported

  4. Weeks 4–12

    Exercise and lab-marker changes reported

Side effects & safety

Side effects

  • Injection-site reactions, which are common
  • Allergic reactions, including serious ones
  • In an eye-disease (AMD) trial, 86% had side effects on elamipretide vs 71% on placebo, mostly injection-site reactions

Stop and get help if

  • A severe injection-site reaction
  • Signs of an allergic reaction
  • Unusual weakness or fatigue
  • Heart or circulation symptoms
  • Headache or vision changes

Avoid or check first

  • Severe kidney impairment — the label calls for a dose adjustment; dialysis hasn't been studied

In sport

  • The reference treats elamipretide as not prohibited following FDA approval in 2025.

  1. Finished solution is distinct

Forzinity is a ready-to-use solution whose label prohibits mixing other products in the same syringe. This is not a reconstitution recipe for SS-31 powder.

Injecting under the skinWhere, rotating sites, which syringe

Where

Subcutaneous injections go into the fatty layer beneath the skin. Common sites include the abdomen, outer thigh and upper arm. Keep at least 5 cm from the navel and avoid bruised, irritated or damaged skin.

Rotate sites

Change the spot each time. Clean the skin and let it dry.

Single-use equipment

Use a new sterile needle and syringe each time. Place used needles in a sharps container.

Storage

Storage

Refrigerated. Reported period: 30 days.

What the research says

Mitochondrial energy

SS-31 binds to cardiolipin, a fat in the cell's energy-producing parts. Lab studies measured protein interactions, oxygen use and production of ATP, the cell's energy fuel.

How long it stays in your body

Half-life is the time it takes for the amount in the body to fall by half. It does not tell you how long effects last.

Questions

What does 50mg mean?

It describes an amount of material in the unit stated on the label. It does not describe liquid volume, a dose, or how to prepare the product.

Read more about amounts
Does purity mean it is sterile?

No. Purity and sterility require different tests. An endotoxin result also does not establish sterility.

About testing
Can I calculate concentration?

You need a mass in mg and either a final volume or a target concentration. IU and blends require separate, verified information.
