What it’s used for
Nasal context
The source discusses a nasal form for a condition called CIRS. That form is distinct from this listing.
Lung research
A large trial using it through a vein was negative; smaller studies tested an inhaled form.
Other research
Other research covers thinking, mood, the heart and blood vessels.
- Research interests
- Lung function · Breathing · Immune response
Clinical studies are disease- and route-specific, with mixed findings.
What to expect
- Weeks 2–12
Reported window for effects with injections
Side effects & safety
Side effects
- Flushing, headache, nausea, diarrhea, nasal irritation and low blood pressure
- In the large IV trial, low blood pressure, flushing and diarrhea were more common than with placebo
Stop and get help if
- Belly pain or raised lipase on blood tests
- Diarrhea or vomiting that won't stop
- Fainting
- Chest pain or shortness of breath
- Severe headache or signs of an allergic reaction
What regs say
- No FDA-approved product was identified, and nasal CIRS protocols are not FDA-approved therapy.
- The Shoemaker CIRS screening and lab steps come from a protocol, not FDA guidance.
Avoid or check first
- Taking blood-pressure medicines — use caution
- Pregnant or breastfeeding — caution advised
In sport
- The reference reports no VIP-specific anti-doping ruling. It argues aviptadil’s European approval puts it outside S0.

How to mix and store it
How many units do I draw?
How to mix5 steps
Wipe both tops
Wash your hands, then swab both rubber vial tops with alcohol. Let them dry.
Draw the water
Use a new sterile syringe to draw the water volume selected in the calculator.
Run it down the wall
Introduce the water slowly down the inside glass wall, rather than directly onto the powder.
Swirl, don’t shake
Gently swirl or roll the vial. Allow time for the powder to dissolve.
Label the vial
Write the preparation date and the amount and final volume on the vial label.
Injecting under the skinWhere, rotating sites, which syringe
Where
Subcutaneous injections go into the fatty layer beneath the skin. Common sites include the abdomen, outer thigh and upper arm. Keep at least 5 cm from the navel and avoid bruised, irritated or damaged skin.
Rotate sites
Change the spot each time. Clean the skin and let it dry.
Single-use equipment
Use a new sterile needle and syringe each time. Place used needles in a sharps container.
Storage
Storage
Refrigerated at 2–8°C.

What the research says
Smooth-muscle cells
Lab-grown rat blood-vessel cells showed VIP binding and increases in cyclic AMP, a messenger inside cells.
Digestive-tissue experiments
Human colon tissue and rat experiments examined VIP, muscle responses and inflammation signals.
How long it stays in your body
Half-life is the time it takes for the amount in the body to fall by half. It does not tell you how long effects last.

What it’s made of
Molecular notes
VIP / synthetic aviptadil reference peptide. The clinical paper identifies aviptadil as synthetic 28-amino-acid VIP. This does not establish identity, formulation or equivalence of the Monroe vial.

Questions
What does 10mg mean?
It describes an amount of material in the unit stated on the label. It does not describe liquid volume, a dose, or how to prepare the product.
Read more about amountsDoes purity mean it is sterile?
No. Purity and sterility require different tests. An endotoxin result also does not establish sterility.
About testingCan I calculate concentration?
You need a mass in mg and either a final volume or a target concentration. IU and blends require separate, verified information.
